In response to employer feedback and overwhelming data that suggest regional growing employment
shortages in the health care industry, the City of Minneapolis engaged key partners to creat a career pathway project
called Minneapolis Health Hire (MHH).

MHH is modeled after our successful TechHire Initiative, which aims to help diversify the Information Technology (IT) field by creating clear, aligned, and coordinated entry points into short-term IT training that results in industry recognized skills and credentials. MHH applies the same concept of creating clear, aligned, and coordinated entry points into health care
training centered on the Health Care Core Curriculum (HCCC), a curriculum that prepares learners with baseline knowledge and skills that then articulate to three pathways in the health care field with employer partners ready to hire. The four pathways are Nursing Assistant Plus, Health Care Plus, Instrument Technician and Patient Access Specialist.

MHH is not a stand-alone singular pathway to a career, but a strategic move to use Minneapolis Community and Technical College’s (MCTC) HCCC as a gateway to countless positions and several educational pathways. The goal of this pathway project is to provide the education, support, and training needed to fill in-demand positions and provide multiple jumping off points into careers in health care for those who face barriers to employment and education. MHH is a fundamental shift in how we address two difficult challenges our state faces: developing the talent Minnesota health care systems need to drive the state's continued economic prosperity; and eliminating the racial and economic disparities that keep too many Minnesotans from having the chance to become that talent.
